Two days ago I received my latest harddisk expansion, a refurbished Seagate Barracuda LP 2 TB disk (ST32000542AS). (I actually purchased a "no name refurbished 2 TB disk", which means that they can provide you with a refurbished disk of any brand. The previous time I did this I got a Western Digital worth 40% more than what I paid for it, and this time I got a € 135 disk for € 99) However, regarding the ST32000542AS I read that there are a lot of potential issues with it, ranging from dead-on-arrival to failure within a week.
So, before I start storing important data on it, I'd like to stress-test this disk for a week or so, just to have some more certainty with respect to it's durability.
I've ran a HD Tune benchmark but that's just 10 minutes of varying load.
I've also copied the contents of the 1.5 TB disk to it, without any problems. However, I still do not feel entirely comfortable with it.
Can anyone advise me on how to do that? I've googled for "harddisk stresstest" but expect for other people asking the same question on forums I haven't found a stresstest application yet.
BTW, it came through the Seatools test without any glitch and I also ran a HD Tune test : no problems. I've concluded this disk is just as trustworthy as any other disk, and I'll will start using it now. Otherwise I'd have to test it for one week/month/half year to see if it holds, and that's not the purpose of buying additional storage, is it? [:p]
